Good On Xcel--Colorado is Moving Towards a 30% by 2020 Renewable Portfolio Standard
It is very exciting news that Colorado is moving towards a 30% by 2020 Renewable Portfolio Standard for the Investor Owned Utilities including Xcel and Black Hills Energy (which serves the area around Pueblo and along the Arkansas River Corridor.) The Bill is HB10-1001 and a copy of the bill as introduced is attached. Further information on the bill status is available under HB10-1001.
There are many individuals and organizations to thank for this important step forward, but perhaps the most important is Xcel Energy. Xcel opposed Colorado's first Renewable Portfolio Standard back in 2004 when voters took the long-stalled effort to the voters as "Amendment 37." Yet, before long Xcel began to understand the value of renewable energy and the ability to operate its system with increasing amounts of renewable energy and now Xcel is "fully supportive" of Colorado's historic step forward. Good on Xcel. They are helping Colorado to lead the way forward into the 21st century. Thanks Xcel!!
