Energy Alternatives - Response to Xcel CEO Dick Kelly

Xcel management clings to the idea that the only way to generate a lot of energy is to burn stuff. No fossil fuel will ever be carbon neutral, and all fuels will grow progressively more expensive as the supply dwindles. Nuclear not only produces hazardous waste, but it dumps waste heat directly into the biosphere. What makes sense for the long term are the free, non-chemical energy sources: wind, concentrating solar, and ocean hydro. These technologies are available right now, they're cheaper to build than nuclear, and polls show that 80 percent of Americans want them. Xcel, the Public Utilities Commission and our elected representatives should read their own polls.
