Wednesday, July 9th
Doors @ 6, Music @ 7, Movie @ 8
Dickens Opera House
300 Main St., Longmont, CO 80501

Dear Governor Hickenlooper follows the story of fracking throughout Colorado, is largely narrated by “the Fractivist” Shane Davis, and was filmed by a number of award winning Colorado-based film makers. Following the screening, there will be a quick panel discussion including Davis, Mary Smith from the Boulder Community Rights Network, Suzanne Spiegel from Frack Free Colorado, an alternative energy solutions subject matter expert and one more TBD. There will be an update on the status of Longmont’s own historic ban, and the fight the city is waging against oil and gas industry determined to overturn it. There will also be a discussing some solutions including the various ballot initiatives now gathering signatures that would allow greater local control over oil and gas development and enshrine this right within the state Constitution thus ensuring that local municipalities will have supremacy over state control. There will also be a discussion about the movement to take Boulder County to home rule by ballot initiative that would allow citizens to restrict fracking in the county.

The event will feature well-known local and regional musicians playing before the 68 minute DGH film for approximately 45 minutes, then show the movie. The subsequent Q&A panel discussion would last for about 20-30 minutes and other musicians would play afterwards with dancing and general merriment until closing time. Also present will be volunteers from various environmental and anti-fracking non-profit, grass roots organizations who will be gathering signatures for the ballot initatives, as well as t-shirt sales for Fractivist, tabling by Frack Free Colorado and other supporting organizations.
