Please join us in hearing Brian Fuentes and Lance Wright, both Certified Passive House Consultants, discuss their knowledge of constructing high performance buildings and the cost and energy savings behind this building method. The Passivhaus concept was introduced to America with the establishment of the Passive House Institute, United States (PHIUS) in 2008. It is a nonprofit organization that provides training, education and research to promote implementation of Passive House Building Energy standard, as well as the design approach and techniques to accomplish that standard.

Brian Fuentes, AIA, CPHC, is the founder of fuentesdesign, a registered architect in the State of Colorado, a member of the AIA, and a Certified Passive House Consultant with the Passive House Institute ( PH) in Germany, as well as the Passive House Institute U.S. ( PHIUS). Brian graduated from the University of Oregon and Robert D. Clark Honors College with distinction in Architecture with his thesis “A Pattern Language for the Front Range of Colorado”, where he also worked as volunteer on the first straw bale house in Eugene in 1998. He was the recipient of the UO’s Rosenberg Traveling Fellowship in 1999 from the University of Oregon’s Architecture program and traveled to Curitiba, Brazil to see the latest in sustainable urban planning. He has taught architecture at the University of Colorado as honorary faculty and presented his thesis and fellowship work at the University of Oregon. Projects by fuentesdesign have been featured on the Denver or Boulder Solar Home Tours in 2004, 2006, and 2008 through 2011. The work of fuentesdesign has been featured in Architect Magazine, The Denver Post “The House Gore Should Have Built”, Boulder County Business Report, the Boulder Daily Camera, and several others.
Lance Wright, CPHC, is the president of Green Energy Man, Inc. and a Certified Passive House Consultant through PHIUS. Lance is currently leading the effort to organize the nascent Colorado Passive House Alliance. Lance graduated from Auburn University with a degree in the Forest Ecology Honor’s Program in 1976. Upon graduating, Lance worked with the U. S. Forest Service in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska before settling down in Colorado in the early 1980’s. He worked for Democratic and environmental campaigns in Colorado through several election cycles, including three of his own runs for a seat in the State House of Representatives, before being elected to the Parker Town Council in 1996 and re-elected in 2000. Lance built his first energy-efficient house in Parker in 1998 and his low winter heating bills helped him convince his fellow Council members to pass a significant increase in the Building Code requirements for energy efficiency in the Town of Parker over the strong objections of the building community. Lance moved to Springfield, Missouri in 2004 for family reasons and became the first US EPA Energy Star building partner in southern Missouri. After building Energy Star rated homes in Missouri for two years, Lance returned to Colorado and established the energy efficiency design and consulting business, Green Energy Man, Inc.
